Training a dog is as adventurous and time-taking, as coaching a kid is, the only difference being their genus and species. These days, the use of e-collars for dogs is on a roll, but no matter how technical this device is, using it has always been a work of art. Hunting dogs have the predator instinct in them, but over time you need to expose them to the surroundings, birds and ultimately guns and hunting weapons. Following this, introduce the dogs to birds and guns, associating each shot with a bird. Over time.the dogs get used to this training, and after six to twelve months can be switched to an e-collar. E-collar works great, but can never suffice the importance of training. These collars work on three modes; tone, vibration and electrical signals. And it’s your responsibility to choose which setting to be used. The electrical signals can either be continuous which can be adjusted by the controller or momentary which lasts for a very short second.

These modes can be hard for the dog to handle, if you shock it at the wrong time. It’s because the dog is still in the training phase, and you may misinterpret his confusion with indiscipline. Finding the Best Stimulation Level:

Shock training is known for multiple modes and features , but at the end of the day it all depends on your training style and the personality of your dog. Some hunting species are timid, and get scared of the shock. Hence, you have to be very careful in using an e-collar. The idea is to use a shock that slightly alerts your dog, without triggering its hunting drive.

Getting the dog used to an collar:

Termed as collar conditioning, it is the art of making your dog and e-collar device one body-with collar giving the stimulus and the dog giving a positive reaction. The best way is to discipline a dog with an e-collar and then use it for hunting orders. There are the following commands for a dog.

1. Command- Come

Dogs are loyal, but it’s important to train them to come back to you. And the dog is prepared for all this before using an e-collar. A creative way is to collar the dog, give that collar a light shake while calling for the dog. Meanwhile, give a slight shock with the controller. Remember that each step a dog takes, shower it with love and praise.With time, the dog will associate the two stimuli, and get used to it.

2. Command- Kennel

Kennel or dog box is a dog’s resting and sleeping area. While training, don’t forcefully keep the dog in the kennel, or it will associate it as a punishment. Instead, attach the dog to a lead, and take it though the dog box’s back. Give him the kennel command, and help them get in the box. This command should be followed by a light stimulation. Once they get the hang of it, try and practice it without the lead. If the dog gets scared of the shock, you’ll need to reduce it a bit.

3. Command- Place

There are multiple ways to teach your dog how to attack a specific place or item. The most common method is to take anything in your hand from cushion to board to any other thing that’s wide and visible. Now attach a lead to your dog, and pull him to the cushion. Practice this daily with the dog along with a mediocre shock that’ll associate and link the two.

E-collars are all about practice, patience and timing. No matter how good of a collar you have, it all comes down to how to use it on your pup. Just stay alert, and observe his signs and behavior.
